A new global materials distributor entered the international polymers market in July 2019 in the form of Meraxis Group, following the merger between the Swiss businesses MB Barter & Trading and Rehau GmbH. Meraxis South Africa distributes plastic raw materials, serving a wide variety of plastic converters throughout Southern, Eastern and Central Africa. The company has a number of long-standing relationships with well-established and well-known global plastics raw material producers. We have warehouses in Durban, Cape Town, Johannesburg and Beira. Meraxis made its official debut in the market on 1 July. The merger involves the combination of the purchasing arm of Rehau and all global offices of MB Barter & Trading, which now all operate under the new common name of Meraxis. The goal of the merged and substantially larger entity is to become one of the world’s largest polymer distributors in just a few years

Safripol is a leading polymer producer and marketer, with operations predominantly in South Africa, serving markets locally in Africa and globally. The company, in its present form, is a direct consequence of strategic acquisitions by KAP over the past few years. Through organic growth, infrastructure investment and acquisitions, we have grown to become the second-largest polymer producer in sub- Saharan Africa. Safripol Sasolburg is home to our High-Density Polyethylene and Polypropylene manufacturing plants. It is here where we produce circa 160kt of HDPE and 120kt of PP annually. Safripol Durban is home to our PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) resin facility. This plant enjoyed a cutting-edge upgrade during 2017, and now has a capacity of 240kt per annum. Safripol Piet Retief produces various urea formaldehyde (UF) resins for the panel industry. These facilities also hold the record of being the largest producer of wood panel resins in Africa. Safripol are the only local producer of High-Density Polyethylene, PET and a variety of MFUF resins.
