Chimei steps up!
RAWMAC Import and Distribution celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, marking an illustrious career in the SA plastics raw materials industry.
Established in 1980, Rawmac supplies engineering polymers to the industry, also providing logistics and technical backup. With a presence in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban and Port Elizabeth, the company is one of SA’s longest standing raw materials suppliers and continues to uphold its solid reputation in the plastics industry.
Taiwan-based Chimei, one of the principals Rawmac has represented since 1980 and the world’s largest vendor of ABS, PMMA and optical sheets, has launched a new visual identity and slogan, ‘A Step Up’, as part of its global expansion efforts. Chimei’s new look and message are inspired by how the company’s leading performance materials boost the quality of a growing range of global customers’ products.
“This rebranding effort demonstrates our redoubled determination to serve global markets, by contributing to our customers’ and partners’ success, and driving advancements across industries,” said Chimei president, Chao Lin-yu. “Now is the time for Chimei to step up and take our commitment to our global customers and partners to the next level.”
“We have always strived to empower our customers’ product development through collaborative R&D. Now, through our new Client-Side Innovation™ working methodology, we are laser-focused on making our global customers’ products stand out, to boost their business,” Lin-u added.
Through Client-Side Innovation™, Chimei has enabled its customers to enter first-tier markets, secure OEM contracts with premium brands, reach a new peak in golf ball performance, produce the world’s narrowest screen bezels, meet the highest food contact safety standards in the world, and more.
Chimei also highlighted its renewed commitment to meeting the world’s most stringent health, safety, and environmental regulations, to offer truly global solutions. The company’s current green initiatives include targeting 80% reclaimed water usage in all production processes, 80% energy self-sufficiency via solar power and natural gas power generation, 98% sludge waste reduction, and 36% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
In addition to the launch of its new visual identity and slogan, Chimei this year celebrated its 60th anniversary.
Collaboration is key
Chimei offers an impressive range of dynamic breakthroughs achieved through close collaboration between itself and its customers. As part of its contribution to enhancing the safety and quality of plastics products that will come into contact with food, Chimei offers new-generation food contact grade Polylac® ABS and Kibisan® SAN materials. These two products conform to the requirements of the most recent versions of five major international standards for food-grade products. Chimei’s unique technology reduces chemical migration, eliminating concerns that food safety may be affected by chemical migration from the food container.
Chimei’s Polylac ABS resin is a copolymer primarily composed of styrene, acrylonitrile, and butadiene. ABS has very good mechanical properties, dimensional stability, processing ability, chemical resistance, and a high-quality appearance. Polylac is well-known for its world’s lowest residual monomer. It has been widely used in manufacturing machinery, electronic components, electrical and home appliances, auto parts, medical products, food and water contact materials, construction materials, toys and sporting goods, and cosmetics containers.
Chimei’s Kibisan SAN resin is a copolymerization of styrene and acrylonitrile, and is also commonly known as AS resin. It not only retains the transparency of GPPS, it also has greater chemical resistance and surface hardness than many other materials. Kibisan SAN resin also exhibits high, uniform glossiness and good heat resistance, rigidity, stability, balancing workability and strength and is widely used in transparent cosmetic packaging. Kibisan, with its high transparency, can be provided stably with high efficiency. Kibisan also has a low residual monomer level, which is suitable for food and water containers. This material is also used in lighter casings, battery casings, detergent sprayer apparatus and medical supplies.
