This unique, sustainable, and cost-effective PET packaging is helping Güngör stand out in the market

How a pickled food producer halved its packaging cost

GÜNGÖR Zeytin Gıda Ambalaj, a family-owned company based in Turkey, has deep roots in olive and pickle production. For years, the company relied on traditional tin packaging for its extensive, large-format range of olives and vegetables. Tin containers presented multiple operational challenges: high material and logistics costs, and limited design flexibility that hindered product differentiation in a competitive market. This drove up overall packaging expenses and constrained stacking and storage optimisation during distribution.

For a sustainable, cost-effective solution, Güngör invested in two CYPET K Series single-stage injection stretch blow moulding machines that enable in-house production of custom 10L and 13.5L PET stackable jars with integrated handle recess. The result: Packaging costs dropped by 44%, driven by significantly lighter containers, optimised preform-to-bottle design for minimal material use, and low energy consumption of just 0.31kWh/kg.

The PET jerrycans are engineered for robust stackability – up to four layers high on pallets – maximising transport and warehouse efficiency while maintaining excellent product protection and food-grade safety.

Beyond cost savings, the new PET packaging enhanced Güngör’s brand image as an innovator. The glossy, ergonomic design with a separate clip-on handle improved user experience for both retail and industrial customers, allowing easier handling and potential secondary use. This packaging helps Güngör stand out in the market, strengthening customer loyalty and supporting market share growth. The company expanded its product portfolio with additional moulds on the CYPET machines.

This is what the company told CYPET: “We have been using your large PET blow moulding machines for several years now and are very satisfied with their performance”.

The partnership with CYPET includes ongoing technical support, spare parts, and mould additions, ensuring high uptime and adaptability. By switching to CYPET-enabled PET packaging, Güngör reduced costs and environmental impact, and positioned itself as a forward-thinking leader in sustainable food packaging. This success story underscores the value of CYPET’s technology for food producers looking to innovate while controlling operating expenses.
