Precision. Performance. Partnership
As a reliable Manufacturer, with a proven track record, Anchor Chemicals has expanded its product range over the years, which now covers:
• Adhesives/Bonding Agents
• Processing Aids
• Powder Blends
• Black Masterbatch
• Talc Masterbatch
• Calcium Carbonate Masterbatch
• Thermoplastic Elastomers (TPE)
• Thermoplastic Rubber (TPR)
• Toll Manufactured Products
Traditionally, the Anchor Chemicals Pietermaritzburg Plant has and continues to manufacture Adhesives for bonding of rubber to metal and other substrates for the mining, automotive and general engineering sectors under the Brand names ECORRBOND, ECORRLOK, to name a few. Advanced formulations have been extensively tested and developed to ensure a premium product range, offering high performance which far exceeds minimum industry standards.
Processing aids and powder blends are produced for the rubber industry. A new anti-tack is currently under development and will be announced soon.
P-TYPE BLACK MASTERBATCH grades make use of high-end, high-purity speciality carbon blacks, with rigid product specifications. These P-type, speciality carbon blacks meet strict performance requirements for key applications. They offer a small particle size, high purity, with low toluene extract, sulphur, grit and ash, as well as giving good processability for smoother surfaces, excellent dispersion and meeting EU food contact requirements.
Anchor Chemicals produces both premium and commodity DAVBLACK black masterbatch grades and specific DAVPRENE TPE grades on a Farrel CP550 line, using the latest technologically advanced processing equipment. The CP550 line is a highly productive compounder with a continuous mixer and extruder system, designed specifically for top-quality dispersion of highly filled, highly pigmented materials. Dispersion excellence and a wide range of MFI product solutions are value-added benefits of production on the Farrel.
In addition, Calcium Carbonate and Talc Masterbatches are produced under the brand name DAVEXTEND, offering both low-cost and premium product options for various applications.
DAVPRENE TPR is a thermoplastic rubber sold predominantly into the fashion footwear industry for shoe soles. These soles are produced with various hardness, colour, translucent or solid state according to customer requirements. This is especially important to the South African shoe industry and Retailers, who strive to meet local content targets.
DAVPRENE TPE grades are often chosen for products over rubber because of their flexibility, versatility,
and recyclability. Anchor Chemicals produces both unfilled, all with food approval, and filled grades, some with food approval and industrial grades, to meet customer requirements.
A significant recent development for Anchor Chemicals was the substantial investment on the part of its parent Company, Hobart Enterprises, resulting in the relocation of its Westmead Plant in February 2023 to Willowton, Pietermaritzburg. The new facility with refurbished compounding machinery provides improved production
efficiencies and the production of top-quality products. The Plant occupies around 5,000 square metres and employs 25 additional staff, with a current storage warehouse capacity of 550mt, with room for expansion. This facility has a borehole water source and a chemical treatment plant on site to supply 8,500 litres per hour for its production processes. The site also has 720 solar panels on the roof capable of supplying all power needs during daylight hours. The plant has its own water reserves for fire suppression, which totals 800,000 litres of water stored in 4 x 200,000 litre tanks.
With increased capacity and a focused, dedicated, dynamic Team, Anchor Chemicals looks forward to continuing its proud legacy and working closely with its customers in offering tailored, sustainable solutions.
